Dr. Jahangir Asghar is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon specializing in pediatric, adolescent, and adult spinal deformities, including scoliosis, complex spinal deformities, and revision surgery. With more than 18 years of surgical research and clinical experience and thousands of spinal deformity procedures performed, he combines extensive expertise with a focus on minimally invasive, motion-sparing approaches to spine surgery.
Dr. Asghar completed a fellowship in Pediatric Spine Surgery at Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia and spent eight years at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, where he focused on the care of children and adolescents with complex spinal conditions. His clinical interests include scoliosis, spinal deformity, endoscopic and minimally invasive spine surgery, revision scoliosis surgery, and osteoporosis.
A central focus of Dr. Asghar’s practice and research is preserving spinal function and normal development whenever possible. He has developed and advanced minimally invasive and ultrasonic techniques for the treatment of complex spinal deformities, including challenging revision procedures in patients who have undergone previous scoliosis surgery. His approach incorporates advanced technology, motion-sparing techniques, and individualized surgical planning based on each patient’s condition, age, goals, and long-term needs.
Dr. Asghar also takes a comprehensive approach to perioperative care, incorporating whole-body assessment and patient-specific risk mitigation into surgical planning. His spinal deformity team evaluates factors that may influence surgical safety and long-term outcomes, with the goal of developing carefully planned treatment strategies for each patient.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Asghar is actively involved in research and education in the field of spinal deformity. He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles and regularly presents nationally and internationally on scoliosis, complex pediatric spinal deformities, and minimally invasive spine surgery. His work reflects an ongoing commitment to advancing surgical techniques and improving outcomes for patients with complex spinal conditions.
Dr. Asghar is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), North American Spine Society (NASS), and International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS). He is also a founding member of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.
His practice is centered on combining advanced technology and minimally invasive techniques with individualized care, with the goal of reducing pain, preserving function, and helping patients return to their daily activities while addressing the underlying spinal condition.
