Dr. Kusnezov earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude in bioengineering from UCLA and received his medical degree from the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honors. Notably, he was the only dual recipient of the Edward K Rice Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award and the university-wide Outstanding Bachelor of Science Award, and also received the prestigious Longmire Surgical Society Award for his surgical aptitude.
After medical school, Dr. Kusnezov was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Military. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency through the U.S. Army at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and William Beaumont Army Medical Center, where he served as chief resident and graduated with distinguished honors. His military career includes service as a brigade orthopedic surgeon for Special Forces units and deployments with U.S. Army medical units, earning multiple Meritorious Service and Army Commendation Medals. He was recognized for his contributions to the community, being honored as a Kentucky Colonel and Tennessee Aide de Camp.
After completing his military service, Dr. Kusnezov returned to Southern California to complete an Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. He now practices in affiliation with the Sharp, Scripps, and UCSD Healthcare systems, specializing in cutting-edge joint replacement procedures and advanced recovery methods.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Kusnezov is actively involved in medical education and research, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications to his name. He was a formative Managing Editor at Orthobullets and contributes to AAOS Orthopaedic Knowledge Update. He has received numerous awards for his scholarly achievements and surgical skill from institutions such as Top Doctors of America and Best in California Magazine.
Dr. Kusnezov is deeply committed to his patients, emphasizing personalized care and fostering strong doctor-patient relationships to ensure the best possible outcomes. He believes in a concierge-type orthopaedic practice, where the patient experience is prioritized, and offers a destination surgery experience in beautiful San Diego.
Outside of work, Dr. Kusnezov enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, weight training as a proud member of the 1000lb club, and playing racquetball.
