Dr. Bray’s commitment to redefining sports medicine with a forward-thinking approach has led him to perform 95% of surgeries as out-patient procedures – a stark contrast to the 20% national average. Whether he is performing a spine fusion, disc replacement or microdiscectomy, Dr. Bray is adept at treating complex spine conditions using microsurgical techniques, which gives patients superior results, rapid recoveries and minimal scarring.
Dr. Bray graduated from Baylor College of Medicine, before going on to serve as the director of neurosurgery and head of the spinal programs at St. John’s Medical Center, Century City Hospital and Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital. He then founded Cedars Sinai’s The Institute for Spinal Disorders and built it into one of the country’s largest spine programs before establishing the state-of-the-art, multi-disciplinary DISC Sports & Spine Center in 2006.
Committed to education and research, Dr. Bray has trained more than 25 fellows, given lectures internationally, and published numerous peer-reviewed articles. As a pioneer in the field, he also holds numerous patents for surgical devices and is frequently quoted by national media outlets.
As a match racing enthusiast, Dr. Bray is the official medical provider for the U.S. Sail GP Team and the Red Bull North American athletes. A yachtsman himself, he enjoys spending time on his boat with his wife who is also an avid match racer. When he’s not in the OR or on the water, Dr. Bray is probably spending time with his wife, kids, and grandchildren.
